These are some of the factors considered:
Do you have enough bone and tissue surrounding your teeth? If you don't have good support, it may be appropriate to use orthodontics to move your teeth so they can provide a more solid, bony and tissue foundation. In such a case, we would follow the ortho treatment with cosmetics after the foundation was strengthened and solidified.
Are your teeth far out of the natural circle of your dental arch—or are they just crooked? If they're just crooked, and ortho is out of the question for you, then a cosmetic dental solution will probably give you the smile you want.
Are you satisfied with the size, color and shape of your teeth? If not, you probably still won't like them after you've completed orthodontia. Cosmetic dentistry procedures are often used to give patients the smile they always wanted after they've completed their orthodontic treatment.
Are both of your jaws right for your face? If you have an underbite, cross-bite or a major size discrepancy in your jaws, it will be difficult to achieve acceptable results without orthodontia, and in some cases, surgery. However, if ortho is not in the cards for you, we can use cosmetic dentistry to improve the appearance of your smile without changing your bite.
